5K

The 5K at the Great Southern Half Marathon is run on Silver Sands Beach and is open to runners & walkers alike.

Come to enjoy the beaches and stunning coastlines of the Fleurieu Peninsula and sample the hospitality of the McLaren Vale region where you’ll find some of the best wines, produce and microbreweries in Australia.

Course Details

Course Description

The 5K starts on Silver Sands Beach at the Norman Road access ramp.  Runers head south on the beach for 500m south before completing a U-turn and heading 2.5 km north to the Aldinga Beach Boat Ramp.  Runners will then complete a 2nd U-turn before following the beach for a further 2 km south to glory at the finish line on the beach in front of Aldinga Bay Surf Life Saving Club.

Drink Stations

A water station will be located at the start/finish area, but there will be no drink stations located on the 5K course.

We do not expect it to be too warm in October so please drink to thirst & be careful not to over-hydrate.

Only compostable cups made from plant-based materials will be used to minimize our impact on the environment.

Toilets

Toilets will be available at the start/finish area.

Course Cut Off Time

The 5K is open to runners and walkers with a 1 hour cut off time for finishing the course. 

A tail walker will follow the last participant around the course for safety reasons.

Marshals

Please be courteous to our marshals and other volunteers. Remember that they are giving up their Sunday morning to make sure that you will enjoy your run.

Presentations

Prizes will be awarded to the first 3 male and first 3 female placegetters in the 5K.  Presentations will be made at the finish line (time TBC).
